The night is late and you’ve tried to sleep, but the redness of your eyes reflect the emotions you feel.
So you pace the floor and make an appeal to your senses to help sidetrack the pain.
But as you look out a curtained window, you find your eyes cannot pierce through the darkness of the late night hour.
And as you lean your elbows upon the window sill to listen intently to what should be the sounds of the night, you find that even the country sounds of nocturnal animals seeking food have begun to cease.
And it is with such darkness and silence outside your house and also from within your soul, that you cry out as in the Psalms: Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee (Ps 102:1).
It is at this point in the darkness of the night Christ chooses to come to you though He doesn’t reveal Himself with visual majesty.
And it is here in the silence of the country night your Savior chooses to encourages you though He doesn’t audibly speak words of consolation and comfort.
But how do you know He has come?
Yes, how can you, of human flesh, see and hear He who has been resurrected and is in spirit form?
It is by His word, the Bible, that He makes His presence known.
And it is by His word, the Bible, that words of encouragement anoint your soul.
October 1
There is no name so sweet on earth,
No name so sweet in heaven,
The name, before His wondrous birth,
To Christ the Savior given.
And when He hung upon the tree,
They wrote this name above Him,
That all might see the reason we
Forevermore must love Him.
So now, upon His Father’s throne-
Almighty to release us
From sin and pain-He ever reigns,
The Prince and Savior, Jesus.
O Jesus! by that matchless name,
Thy grace shall fail us never,
Today as yesterday the same,
Thou art the same forever!
Chorus
We love to sing of Christ our King,
And hail Him blessed Jesus!
For there’s no word ear ever heard
So dear, so sweet, as “Jesus!”
